APA Basics
This workshop will review basic elements of citing and formatting in APA and cover the ways of using sources: quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. Adler writing consultant Mark Peters will also discuss how to make the APA manual your friend instead of a source of stress. Participants should gain access to the APA 7 manual before the workshop, but please join even if you haven't been able to!

Common Language Errors in Academic Writing
In this workshop, Adler writing consultant Sinan Uluc will present the most common language errors in academic writing, such as misplaced information, subject-verb disagreement, relative clauses and more.
Writing That Flows
This workshop will focus on using transitional tools properly to improve the flow of your ideas and guide your readers through your paper. Adler writing consultant Sinan Uluc will demonstrate ways to link your sentences and paragraphs in an organized manner.
Writing Tips for Literature Reviews
In this workshop, Adler writing consultant Mark Peters will cover the basic elements of a literature review, including how to get started, how to organize your sources, and how to stay on track. We'll discuss how a lit review fits into the dissertation and why it's important. This session should be helpful if you've never written a literature review or if you have but could use a few new tips and strategies.
Create an Academic and Professional Tone in Your Writing
Adler writing consultant Sinan Uluc will highlight the essentials of creating an academic voice, such as rigor, density and nominalization. You may not be familiar with these terms yet, but once you find out what they do, it will all make sense!
The Writing Process
This workshop will look closely at the various stages of the writing process and why they're important. Adler writing consultant Mark Peters will focus on pre-writing, drafting, getting feedback, revising, editing, and proofreading, with examples of how to approach each stage. The emphasis will be on how the writing process can make your writing better and less stressful to produce.
CV and Resume Writing
In this workshop, Adler writing consultant Sinan Uluc will highlight the most common CV and resume writing practices in Canada and US. He will also share a few tips on writing cover letters.
Introduction to Graduate-Level Research at Adler Library
Join librarian Dorinne Banks as we explore the most widely used research tools and services at Adler Library. Participants will leave with a better understanding of using library resources for their course assignments.
RefWorks: Keeping Your Research Organized
RefWorks is a web-based bibliography manager that allows you to manage all your research citations in one place. Join librarians Dorinne Banks and Lauren Lacey to learn how to export references from library databases, create a library to store PDFs, utilize the Word processing plug-in [Reference Citation Manager] for in-text citations, and create a bibliography in APA format.

Advanced research: refine your topic & searches
Have a literature review due this semester or working on chapter 2 of dissertation? Join librarian Frances Brady for a hands-on session where you’ll work on refining your topic, developing advanced search strategies, finding relevant sources, and increasing your confidence. Bring your laptop and your ideas/interests. No need to have a topic refined yet, but if you have one, that’s great, too!
