APA Workshops

APA Basics 

This workshop will review basic elements of citing and formatting in APA and cover the ways of using sources: quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. Adler writing consultant Mark Peters will also discuss how to make the APA manual your friend instead of a source of stress. Participants should gain access to the APA 7 manual before the workshop, but please join even if you haven't been able to!

Get to know the APA manual better as you work on your dissertation. We'll discuss tips and tricks for making the manual more user-friendly, and there will be a Q&A.

Paraphrasing & Plagiarism 

Our workshop on paraphrasing and plagiarism offers the essential skills to accurately restate information in your own words while maintaining academic integrity. It provides you with the understanding of different forms of plagiarism, advanced paraphrasing techniques, the importance of proper citation. This workshop will empower you to produce original and high-quality academic work confidently.


CVs and Cover Letters

Get some advice on those crucial CVs and cover letters as you apply for internships. Learn some do's and don'ts for preparing these important materials. 


The Writing Process

This workshop will look closely at the various stages of the writing process and why they're important. Adler writing consultant Mark Peters will focus on pre-writing, drafting, getting feedback, revising, editing, and proofreading, with examples of how to approach each stage. The emphasis will be on how the writing process can make your writing better and less stressful to produce. 


Grammar: The Passive Voice 

Focusing on the passive voice, this grammar workshop aims to improve your writing clarity and precision. During this workshop, we will delve into the academic use and identification of passive voice.


Editing & Proofreading

This two-session workshop will cover essential techniques to refine your drafts, identify and correct errors, and improve clarity and coherence. Covering macro and micro-level editing, this workshop aims to help you develop a critical eye for detail and elevate the quality of your work. It familiarizes you with coherence and thematic consistency in writing, effective use of transitions, and common grammatical and punctuational errors.  


Grammar:  Adjective Clauses 

Focusing on adjective clauses, this grammar workshop aims to improve your writing clarity and precision. During this workshop, we will delve into the formation, function, and reduction of adjective clauses.

Introduction to Graduate-Level Research at Adler Library

RefWorks is a web-based bibliography manager that allows you to manage all your research citations in one place. Join librarians Dorine Banks and Lauren Lacey to learn how to export references from library databases, create a library to store PDFs, utilize the Word processing plug-in [Reference Citation Manager] for in-text citations, and create a bibliography in APA format.
