OER Course Transformation Program 2024 - 2026

Adler University Library announces a 2-year pilot program to fund the adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER) course materials

Awardee Requirements

Upon selection of project awardees in June 2024, each Adler project team will be required to:

  • Sign an Adler MOU for their project
  • Secure a letter of support from your department chair, dean, or person in a similar role who is responsible for assigning courses. The purpose of the letter is to verify that you will be teaching the redesigned course using the new OER.
  • Collaborate with librarian to develop a timeline of deliverables, payment schedule, and gather impact data
  • Attend a virtual Kickoff & On-boarding Session with all awardees from Adler University
  • Attend specialized trainings with librarian and appropriate workgroups (e.g., timelines, deliverables, copyright, instructional design, etc.)
  • All work must employ evidence-based content and practices. It must fulfil core competencies and requirements of its subject area.
  • Meet deadlines and participate in check-ins with librarian each semester.

All final materials must have a Creative Commons BY 4.0 license and are expected to be used in the course at least once by Spring 2026 and for at least three academic years after the end of the grant.

Expected Outcomes

The primary goal of the OER Course Transformation Incentive Program is to support student affordability of course materials at Adler by switching to zero-cost course materials.

To be eligible, all proposed projects must replace traditionally copyrighted, proprietary course materials with an open textbook/OER that meets this criteria:

  • It must meet the 5 R's of Retain, Revise, Remix, Reuse, and Redistribute
  • It will be openly licensed using a Creative Commons 4.0 International License that allows for derivatives.
  • It uses a digital publishing platform (LibreTexts and/or OER Commons will be provided to all grant recipients, but other platforms may be used).
  • It must be full accessible according to Web Content Accessibility (WCAG 2.0) Guidelines.
  • Final materials will be published on the LibreTexts platform and hosted in the Open Illinois OER Commons Hub and the Open Textbook Library. The OER must be made available for printing through a printing platform such as XanEdu.
  • Final materials must be used in the course by the Spring semester 2026 and for three years after the end of the grant.
  • It provides students with day-one access to their course materials.
  • It allows students to retain access to the OER content after the course is completed.
