If you would like to include a statement in your syllabi about the library Course Reserve collection, you may use and adapt the following language:
The Adler University Library purchases required course texts when possible in either electronic or print format. To find library copies of books for this course, search by course code or instructor's last name in the library catalog at library.adler.edu/catalog/reserves

The Course Reserves collection provides free access to required course texts for students in both on-ground and online programs. Providing library-licensed, library purchased, or open access materials ensures equitable access to educational materials and eases students’ financial burdens.
Online Campus faculty and SMEs work in conjunction with the Educational Design and Innovation department and the Online Campus librarian to select appropriate course texts and make them available to students. Course texts lists for Online Campus courses are managed by EDI and can be accessed at the link below. To correct or update information on this list, contact EDI at edi@adler.edu.
Course texts lists for on-campus programs and online courses administered by Chicago campus programs (CMHC, PHDAT) are submitted via online form to the University Library.
When you submit your booklist to the library, the library will:
Faculty will be emailed with requests for book lists each semester. Lists should be submitted by the deadlines established in the emails to ensure that items will be on reserve at the start of the semester.
Book lists are processed on a first come, first-processed basis. Allow a minimum of 3 business days to process the submission. Lists may take longer to process fully, and materials not currently in the library's collection will take additional time to acquire and process.
Instructors can place their own personal items on course reserve anytime throughout the semester. To place personal items on reserve, instructors need to bring their personal items to the circulation desk and complete a Personal Item on Reserve form.
Personal copies placed on course reserves will be marked with call number and barcode stickers. The Library assumes no responsibility for damage that could occur while personal copies are on course reserves. Instructors are required to retrieve their own material at the conclusion of the semester. If the items are not retrieved by the instructor within 60-days of the end of the semester, the material will be recycled.
Individual users who wish to make photocopies of copyrighted reserve materials for personal use are responsible for complying with fair use provisions and/or all notices and warnings posted on reproduction equipment (i.e., copiers, printers, etc.) concerning copyright compliance. Posted notices read as follows:
NOTICE WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Libraries and archives furnish unsupervised photocopy or other reproduction equipment for the convenience of and use by patrons. Under 17 U.S.C. § 108(f)(2) the provision of unsupervised photocopy or reproduction equipment for use by patrons does not excuse the person who uses the reproduction equipment from liability for copyright infringement for any such act, or for any later use of such copy or phonorecord, if it exceeds fair use as provided by section 107 or any other provision of the copyright law. This institution reserves the right to refuse to make available or provide access to photocopy or other reproduction equipment if, in its judgment, use of such equipment would involve violation of copyright law.
