Faculty, Chicago Campus: Research Assistance

Learn what access to library materials adjuncts have. How to access: journal articles, books, videos, your library account. What services the library provides to adjuncts, and how we can help your students with research.

Reference appointments

I encourage students and faculty to schedule one-on-one appointments with me for research help. Meetings can be in-person or through Zoom. These appointments provide personal help in conceptualizing their topic, finding useful key terms, and applying database skills to their particular topic. Appointments can be made using the scheduler at the link below.

Research assistance

If a student is doing research for your personal scholarship, we recommend that you as the faculty driving the research attend at least initial meetings with Frances. Much of the reference appointment involves discussing the topic, which is difficult if the student is not clear on the scope of the faculty's topic.

If you are not able to attend a reference appointment, please recommend that your student workers make appointments with our Peer Coaches or connect with the Library via Teams, to receive help navigating the databases, but not with topic, selecting the best subject headings, nor evaluating citations.
