Association of Black PsychologistsThe Association of Black Psychologists was founded in San Francisco in 1968 by a number of Black Psychologists from across the country. They united to actively address the serious problems facing Black Psychologists and the larger Black community. Guided by the principle of self determination, these psychologists set about building an institution through which they could address the long neglected needs of Black professionals. Their goal was to have a positive impact upon the mental health of the national Black community by means of planning, programs, services, training, and advocacy.

Our membership will include psychologists and graduate students who are active, well-informed and passionate about improving the overall health and wellness of people of color in Illinois, nationally and globally.
The Society of Black Mental Health ProfessionalsWe, The Society of Black Mental Health Professionals, are a group of like-minded professionals who all share the passion of educating others and creating awareness about mental health. The association started in April 2019, with a group of local African American licensed, as well as non-licensed Mental Health Counselors, Social Workers and case mangers who wanted to not only support each other, but provide support to our community. Our goal is to provide mental health resources, training, group counseling, and psychoeducation which will hopefully end the stigma related to mental illness in our community.
