EBL - Ebook Library: Access Ebooks

When accessing an ebook from your institution’s library catalog or EBL homepage (i.e., http://XXXXX.eblib.com), the tabs on the book details page provide information about the title:

• Details – View title information
• Contents – Navigate the table of contents
• Bookmarks – Access any bookmarks or notes you may have created in previous sessions

 Use the buttons above the tabs to:

• Add to Collection – Add a title to a personal collection
• Email a link – Email a durable URL to yourself or someone else
• Cite this book – Copy a citation, or export to RefWorks or Endnote/Citavi

Click the Read Online button to open the ebook in the EBL Online Reader, or click to access a specific chapter or section from the table of contents.

When reading a title online, you can navigate using the table of contents on the left, scroll bar on the right or page options at the top. The tool bar above the ebook also allows you to resize the text, copy and print, switch between image and PDF view in your browser window, look up terms in the dictionary or use the read aloud function. The tabs to the left of the ebook provide additional options:

• Details – View title information, current loan status, and copy and print allowances
• Contents – Navigate the table of contents
• Notes – Add or access any of your bookmarks or notes
• Search – Search the full text of the ebook
• Download – Download the ebook to a laptop or desktop computer, or mobile device

You can browse the full text of the title for a period of time.  When your browsing period has elapsed, you will typically be prompted to borrow the ebook. Click the Yes button if you would like to continue reading the ebook. You may receive a similar prompt if you choose to print or copy pages before the initial browsing period has elapsed.

Note: Some loans are required to be mediated. In such instances, you will be prompted to submit a request form, and your institution will notify you via email upon approval.

Note: If you are working on a public computer that is shared by others (e.g., in your library), you should always choose to read ebooks online via the EBL Online Reader.

In order to provide seamless authentication while ensuring secure digital rights management (DRM), EBL verifies identification and access permissions at the individual user level. The EBL system utilizes a combined method of IP recognition plus individual identification via a unique and consistent identifier that protects patron privacy.

For this reason, each individual user is required to authenticate by providing their institutional ID and password, or EBL patron login information, when first accessing an EBL ebook whether they are on-site or off-site.

The EBL patron interface and online reader is designed to work across all operating systems (OS) including Linux, and popular web browsers including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. When possible, users are encouraged to have the most recent OS updates and browser versions installed.

Adobe Reader is required to print, copy or view as PDF in the EBL Online Reader.

Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) is required to download ebooks for offline reading.
