Counselling Psychology - Vancouver: Reserving the Sand Tray

About this Page

This page provides Adler Vancouver students with information about the Vancouver Library's policies and procedures for Sand Tray borrowing, as well as an inventory of the items in the sand tray. Information about sand tray reservations, picking up/dropping off the tray, and student responsibility is also provided. If you have any questions about the information provided in this guide, please email assessment.reservations@gmail.com or the library at (vanlibrary@adler.edu).

Vancouver Library Hours

PIcking up/Dropping off the Sand Tray

The sand tray can be reserved for a maximum of 2 hours, and it must be returned at the arranged drop-off time/date. You must send your reservation request a minimum of one day before you pick it up to provide library staff with ample time, especially during peak periods, to prepare and allocate the materials. **Same-day requests may not be accommodated.**

When making a reservation, please email assessment.reservations@gmail.com and make sure you include the following information.

  • Your full name
  • Date and time for sand tray pick up

You will receive an email confirmation from assessment.reservations@gmail.com when the sand tray has been reserved. You will also receive a calendar appointment with the details of your reservation. Accept this into your calendar.

Pick-Up

When picking up the sand tray please see any Student Library Worker or the Campus Librarian. You are required and expected to fully check the sand tray. You will be held responsible for any damage done to it while it is in your care.

If the sand tray is not picked up within a half hour of your reservation, and we have not heard from you, your reservation will be cancelled and the sand tray will be made available for reservations to other students.

Drop-Off

The loan period for the sand tray is 2 hours. If you are unable to make your drop-off time, please alert the library staff or librarian as soon as possible as others may be waiting for it.

The sand tray MUST be checked back in by a Library Student Worker or the Librarian. We check for damage and make sure all contents are complete, and we sign off on them—this final process ends your reservation/responsibility for it.

Please do NOT leave the sand tray at the Front Desk or anywhere in the library.

You are responsible for ensuring that the sand tray and all items included with it are returned and in good condition.

Cancelling a Reservation

If you no longer need the sand tray, and you need to cancel, please send an email to assessment.reservations@gmail.com.

Room Bookings

A room or confidential counselling space should be used to practice using the sand tray. You can record your session the same way as you do for class.

For information about booking filming rooms, please refer to this guide from Facilities

No sand tray practice is allowed in the Learning Commons.

Sand Tray Borrowing Policy

The sand tray and associated toys have been purchased by the Counselling Psychology Program at Adler University to assist Counselling Psychology students in becoming trained and proficient in their use. The Counselling Psychology Program has generously extended its use to all students on the Vancouver Campus.

Lost or Damaged Sand Tray Materials

If you lose the Sand Tray or its contents, you will be charged the full replacement cost plus a $10 processing fee.

If the Sand Tray is damaged to the extent that it is deemed ‘no longer useable’ by the library, the student will be charged the original cost of the materials.

Student Responsibility Forms

All students are required to sign a responsibility form before the sand tray can be reserved in your name. If you haven't already signed one, please sign one and return it to the Library. A copy is attached below.
